About
The Autism Association (Singapore) is one of the Voluntary Welfare Organisations in Singapore, dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and helping them lead meaningful and quality lives in society.

Mission Statement
To initiate, organise and support provision of a broad spectrum at services for people with autism in Singapore. Such services to encompass education, vocational and life skills training and residential care.

Objectives

•     To identify, promote and encourage the treatment, education, welfare and acceptance of persons with autism. Also to watch over, protect and act in the interests of persons with autism and autistic-like features.

•     To stimulate public awareness and understanding of autism, and to promote community involvement and support for persons with autism and their families.

•     To familiarize and advise the community of the special skills, services as well as understanding necessary for the care and management of persons with autism so as to assist such persons to develop their full potential.

•     To encourage, promote and facilitate research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of autism and associated conditions.

•     To do such other things as are conducive or incidental to the attainment of the above objects or any of them, the Association may:

       1. provide assistance and advice for families of persons with autism.

       2.provide and maintain suitable premises and equipment for the purposes of the Association. To encourage and promote establishment and improvement of day care and residential centres and other facilities for the training, development and support of people with autism.      
       3.provide publications, courses and other facilities for imparting of knowledge and exchange of ideas in respect of autism.
       4.liaise with government departments and other organizations, agencies, professionals and other persons within the country and outside, interested in having expert knowledge in the welfare of persons with autism.
       5.safe-keep the income and property of the Association whenever derived, for sole application towards the promotion of the objects of the Association and ensure that no portion thereof shall be transferred directly or indirectly by way of profit to members.

    Pre-vocational School at Bukit Batok
    Day Activity Centre at Hougang and Clementi
    Social and Leisure Programmes for adults


Eden Children's Centre
Formerly known as "Autism Children's Centre", the Eden Children's Centre (Clementi and Simei) provide early intervention services for children who are diagnosed with autism, aged between 2 to 6 years old. Fueled by research that shows children who receive intensive early intervention services are more likely to have improved long-term outcomes.

With symptoms presenting as early as 12 months of age, and with diagnosis now possible at 18 months, the centre strives to advocate that the earlier we intervene to address a child's difficulties with communication, social interactions and behavioural issues, the more likely we are to elicit quick and positive changes.

The mission of the programme is to equip preschoolers with autism with relevant skills to be ready for school settings.

At the children's centre, we provide a structured teaching environment where Individualized Education Progammes are tailored and implemented to meet each child's needs in developing his/her maximum potential. We also highly encourage active participation of families, via the training of essential skills to promote their child's optimal development in the following areas:

    Language & Communication Skills
    Cognitive / Visual Skills
    Behavioural / Self-Regulation Skills
    Gross & Fine Motor Skills
    Social Interaction & Play Skills
    Pre-Academic Skills

The activities include: Direct / Group Teaching, Independent Work, Snack Time, Play Time, Circle Time, Music Time and Gross Motor activities.

Prior to enrolment, a needs-assessment is conducted to determine the child's level of functioning and support needs. Based on this, the child may be placed in 1:1 individualized therapy, small group therapy, big group therapy, or a combination of the 3. These models will continually be reviewed, based on the child's development.

At the Eden Children's Centre, we believe that progress is only successful with parent participation and generalization of skills learnt to other social settings (e.g. home). Thus parent involvement is an integral part of the sessions as it is an opportunity for parents to learn with their child.

For the first 6 months, parents / caregivers are expected to join in the sessions with their child. During this time, teachers will be imparting skills and knowledge to equip parents / caregivers on the individual strategies they can use with their child at home and in other environments.

An Individualized Education Progamme (IEP) is developed at the beginning of every semester, together with inputs from the parents / caregivers. At the end of the semester, a case review is conducted to gauge if goals have been met and to plan the next course of action.


Eden Centre for Adults
Formerly known as “Autism Youth Centre”, it was repositioned as an adult centre in 2011. This was in response to the changing landscape of needs in the post-18 service areas for individuals with autism. The centre operates as a Day Activity Centre for adults diagnosed with moderate to severe autism.

Guided by the principles of Meaningfulness, Independence and Dignity, our mission is to be the leading centre in establishing Quality Long-Term Outcomes in Autism.

At the Eden Centre for Adults, we believe in building the capacity of each individual in 2 main areas – Doing what they NEED to do (eg. basic self-help, work habits, daily life skills, exercise etc) and Doing what they WANT to do (eg. developing leisure, hobbies, special interests etc), while respecting their individual support needs. Building on their strengths and interests, the centre provides flexibility within the programme, as well as an element of choice and self-determination.
