The Twin Terrors -Past & Present

At the moment, my CPF portfolio has not performed as well as both my Cash portfolio and SRS portfolio.  Reasons being that l have suffered twin terrors effect in my investment using CPF funds.

l was way too careless to be involved in speculative investment back then when l have invested into Wilmar and Olam.  l did not even know back then that both Wilmar and Olam are speculative stocks. And by the time l knew of their speculative traits my CPF portfolio already suffered combined paper losses of $8.2k on Wilmar and Olam.  It was a hard decision made but l needed a reboot at some point of time so these were sold off and hence l have suffered huge realized losses on them.  Buy and holding these twin terrors is not good thing so it's better to divest them away.

Spiltting headache over Olam and Wilmar

Au revoir Wilmar

CPF - Closing Status 15 Mar

In the present moment l have another new twin terrors in my CPF portfolio - Capitaland and SembMar.   Both are good blue chips companies.  l am keeping both for now as these are not speculative stocks and both still have good growth story on them.

CPF - Closing Status 28 Dec

I have sold off Wilmar 1 lot under my CPF portfolio this week for a nett loss of $3,075.  I do not know how long will be needed to recoup this loss.

The clean-up for my CPF portfolio will continue into year 2013 and l will have to suffer another big loss when it happens.

-$3,075 Loss on sales of Wilmar

Au revoir Wilmar

After hanging on to Wilmar for two years and one month, l have sold it off this morning at a huge loss of $3.1k.  Strange though that l am still having the splitting headache.  Probably it is due to Wilmar’s share price is still going up and l have sold it off at a lower price level; and its share price is likely to continue with upward swing?

Perhaps it’s better to let bygones be bygones.  One down so another one more to go .....

Spiltting headache over Olam and Wilmar

I am in quite a dilemma with both Olam and Wilmar shares in my CPF portfolio.  Both were purchased in Nov 2010 and are in paper losses positions.  As of 19 Dec, combined paper losses are at $8.2k or 72% of total paper losses under CPF portfolio.

Their share prices are taking baby steps improvement and l do not think it is possible for them to go back up to the share prices levels during Nov 2010 time.  So, l will have to bite the bullet soon as their share prices are showing some improvement now.  It’s now or never?  Or should l wait further, into 2013?  Decisions, decisions, decisions ......

CPF - Closing Status 9 Nov

This week under CPF portfolio l have invested into Wilmar 1 lot as l felt that it's share price has stabilized after recent months and weeks of sell down.  But its share price did went down further slightly and that's when l felt that perhaps l was wrong to re-invest into it so l have letting it go within the same week.  Another reason to sell was because I have also thought that it would post another set of bad results.

When Wilmar announced its latest results this week and on quarter-to-quarter basis, both sales and profit have improved.  l will not look at its results versus previous year as that's already kind of obsolete.  With an improved quarter on quarter sales and profit then l do feel that perhaps l can consider accumulate it as and when its share price weakens.

For now, due to incorrect prejudgement so l have to suffer a small loss of $13 when l bought and sold Wilmar 1 lot in the same week itself.

Portfolio walk since previous posting :-

-$8,189 Total Returns as of 12 Oct

-$13 Loss on Wilmar investment and divestment

-$128 Unrealised positions worsened

Hoping to catch Wilmar below $3

Invested into Wilmar 1 lot this week because l thought its share price seems to have already dropped a lot.   But when l saw that it got hit to an even lower price level so that's kind of shaken me a bit.  Managed to sell it away today but l have miscalculated on the break even price level so l have to bear a small loss for it.

It will be releasing its results soon; probably tomorrow - 9 Nov.   I sensed it to be another set of weak results.

Will re-invest into Wilmar when its price going to a lower level - perhaps below $3.

CPF - Closing Status 14 Sep

Invested into Wilmar 4 lots this week.  I have an existing 1 lot of Wilmar purchased in Nov'10 currently running at a huge unrealized loss of $3.1k.  Initially l have wanted to average down with the 4 lots purchased this week.  To break-even with total of 5 lots, l will need to sell all of it at $3.70 but l am unsure whether this price level is achievable due to its share price weakness in recent weeks and months.  With this l have decided to sell away the same 4 lots in this week itself at a gain of $493.

Portfolio walk since previous posting :-

-$9,452 Total Returns as of 7 Sep

+$493 Gain from sales of Wilmar

+$1,039 Unrealised positions improved

-$7,921 Total Returns as of 14 Sep

Olam, Wilmar, Noble ... eeny, meeny, miny, moe

Olam, Wilmar, Noble Group - all three made it to top volume chart and on Friday and both Wilmar and Olam were both at one point at their 52 week low.

Investors in particular those who speculate are now tearing their hair out figuring which one offers best returns.  Perhaps best way to deal with this is to compare them in a simple table.

To me, both the 52 week high and low are just for reference and should not be be used as the ultimate target for buying and selling decision.  l am curious how they would look like so l am comparing them at 60 day high and low.

I have included the dividend amount expected if the speculation failed to bear fruit and there is a need to baby sit it for one year or so.  Is the dividend amount better than bank deposit rate, definitely yes as bank deposit rates are very low at between 1% to 0.2%.

Quick ratio is there for a quick health check.

Anyways, speculation is not my cup of tea so l will avoid all threes.

Note :- Olam will announce Qtr 3 results on 15 May.

CPF - Closing Status 25 Nov (unrealised stocks status)

Difficult to sell these negative returns stocks - Capitaland, SingPost, Olam and Wilmar as the share market is in very bad shape now.  Paper loss of $14.5k is really too heavy to shoulder so, will not consider their disposal for re-investment.
